Soms wil ik eens wat anders maken, een klein projectje waar je heel wat creativiteit in kwijt kan.
Wat doe je dan....vlaggetjes maken. Misschien vinden jullie dat ook wel leuk vandaar mijn eerst tutorial.

Sometimes I need to create something different. A small project where I can put a lot of creativity into.
And what is it you do.... you make flags. As this might be something you like to do as well, I turned it in to a tutorial. Please read the full tutorial before starting.

Wat heb je nodig:
Stof, liniaal [inch of cm maakt niet uit],kartelschaar of
kartel snijmes, snijmes, snijmat, versteviging [vlieseline] en blauwe
[verwijderbare]stift. [foto 3]
Wat kan je erbij gebruiken als extra:
Borduurgaren, lint, kralen, bandjes, eigenlijk van alles om
de vlag te versieren. [foto 4]

What do you need for this tutorial:
Fabric, ruler (can be either inch or cm), pinking
shears or cartel cutter, cutter, mat, reinforcement fabric (vlieseline) and a
bleu marker (removable). [foto 3]
Extra’s you
can use:
Embroidery thread, ribbons, beads, really anything to decorate
the flag. [foto 4]

Natuurlijk ook naaigerei [foto 5], eventueel een naaimachine maar het
is ook op de hand te doen.
Als eerste wordt de punt getekend. Ik gebruik daarvoor mijn
Mary Sue’s Triangle Ruler [foto 6]
Dat hoeft niet, je kan hem ook zo tekenen. De maten staan

Ofcourse you will need a sewing kit [foto 5]. This tutorial is
do-able both by hand and mechanical.
First you need to draw the point of the flag. I use my
Mary Sue’s Triangle Ruler [foto 6] to make it easier on myself but that is not
necessary. It’s draw
able with any ruler. See measurments. [foto 7]

Teken een lijn, haaks daarop [ongeveer in het midden] nog
een lijn. Zet de maten erbij en verbind deze punten met elkaar. [foto 7]

Draw a line. Draw perpendicular to that line (about
centered) another line. Add the measurements and connect the points. [foto 7]

Omdat quiltstoffen nogal dun zijn doe ik één kant van het
vlaggetje met dunne versteviging [vlieseline] verstevigen. Dit knip/snij ik ¼
inch [½cm] korter dan het stoffenvlaggetje. [ foto 8] Het vlaggetje is dan ook
niet zo slap.
Voordeel: als je dat deel van het vlaggetje gaat versieren,
werkt dat erg prettig en de draadjes aan de achterkant schijnen niet zo door
naar de voorkant.

With quiltfabrics being fairly thin, I will add
reinforcment fabric [vlieseline] to one side. This will be the same shape but ¼
inch [ ½ cm ] shorter than the original flag. [foto 8]. This will add firmness.
Advantage:
If you were planning on decorating that part of the flag this will make
it easier to work with and the left over strings at the back will not show
through the fabric to the front.

Nu begint het leuke werk. Zodra één deel van het vlaggetje
verstevigd is kan je gaan versieren.
Lintjes, kraaltjes, yoyo’s, stichery en zelfs een patchwork blokje [foto
12] van 6 cm [2¾ inch] kan erin verwerkt
worden.
Nou ben ik van de makkelijke, wat inhoud geen naad. Leg de
twee lagen [verkeerde kant stof] op elkaar, stik ze ongeveer ¼ vanaf de zijkant
door en knip dan met de kartelschaar het kartelrandje eraan. [of gebruik een
kartelsnijmes, mijne uitgeleend vandaar met de kartelschaar]
Dit voorkomt dat de stof erg gaat rafelen. Zelf vind ik het
een leuk effect geven. Wil je dit niet maar een vlag
maken met de naad aan de binnenkant!
Vergeet dan niet om er een naad aan te knippen/snijden

Now the fun part starts. As soon as one part of the
flag has been reinforced, you can start to decorate.
Ribbons, beads, yoyo’s, stitchery and even a pathwork
cube [foto 12] with a maximum size of 2 ¾ inch [6 cm] can be added to the flag.
As I like to take the easy route, the flag will not
have a seam. Put both layer of fabric on top of each other [wrong side of the
fabric facing each other], then stitch about ¼ of the side together and then
use either the pinking shears or cartel cutter to cartel the side.
This prevents the fabric from fraying. Personally I like this but if you
don’t like this you can make a flag with the seam on the inside. Don’t forget
to add to the size for a seam.

Doordat ieder vlaggetje aan de bovenkant word
afgewerkt met een biaisbandje , van 66 cm [26
inch], hou ik aan beide kanten van het vlaggetje een stukje over, hiermee kan
ik de vlaggetjes onderling aan elkaar strikken. Geeft een leuk effect de
verschillende stofjes in een strik. [foto 14] Leg het vlaggetje in het midden [tussen
het gevouwen biaisband] van de biaisband, zet er een paar spelden in en stik in één
keer de biaisband dubbel. Het vlaggetje is dan
mee gestikt.

Every flag will get finished with bias on the top with
a length of 26 inch [66 cm]. This will leave a piece of bias on both sides to
tie the different flags together. Using different colors for the bias will add
to the effect when tied together. [foto 14] Put the flag center [in between the
folded bias] of the bias, pin it together and stitch the bias in one go. This will finish the flag.

Maken biaisband: Knip/snij een stook van 66 cm x 3¾ cm [26 x 1½ inch], strijk deze dubbel [verkeerde kant stof op elkaar], vouw open en vouw dan de helft bijna naar het midden toe. [foto 15/16] Doe dit aan beide zijden. Strijk de strook weer dubbel. Dit mag gewoon recht van draad zijn.

How
to make bias:
Cut
a line of fabric of 26 x 1 ½ inch [66 x 3 ¾ cm]. Iron it in half in length
[wrong sides of the fabric facing eachother].
Open it up and fold each half back to the middle, nearly reaching it. [picture 15/16] Again iron the line of fabric. This can be straight wire.

Het was heel leuk om zo tussendoor deze vlaggetjes te maken,
ga er zeker nog een paar meer maken want de slinger nog veel te kort. Iedere
maand één vlag erbij? Omdat ik de versiering aan één kant heb gedaan en een
quiltlapje aan de andere kant, wil niet zeggen dat jullie dat ook moeten doen.
Het staat je vrij om aan beide kanten te doen wat jij wilt. Het is tenslotte
jouw vlaggetje. Veel plezier met het maken. Mochten er vragen zijn dan

I had a lot of fun making these flags in between my
other projects and will be adding more as the garland is still way to short. Maybe
make one every month? With me only decorating one side and adding quilt fabric
to the other side of the flag doesn’t mean you have to do that also. You are free
